Your application has been received. Please be aware that, within one month, you must attend the service point you selected when using the e-services, for identification purposes. Please take along original copies of the attachments required for your application and also your passport photo. Passport photo is not required if you have submitted a citizenship application. You will not receive a separate request for identification. If you do not pay such a visit within the allotted time, your application will not be assessed i.e. you will not be granted a permit. The processing fee will not be refunded.

The application process:
Submit a new application by selecting “New application” from the menu on the left.
Fill in the electronic application form and save it. The application can be edited after it has been saved. Incomplete applications are marked with the status “(draft)”.
You can pay for applications processed by the Finnish Immigration Service (first residence permit applications, citizenship applications and citizenship declarations) using a credit card or online banking services provided by Finnish banks. Please note that you cannot use a credit card to pay for applications processed by the police (permit extension applications and registration of EU citizens).
When you are done, send the application by clicking the “SUBMIT” button. Once the application has been sent, it can no longer be edited. The application will move forward in the e-services.
The status of your application will be changed to “Initiated” once you have visited an embassy or police station for the verification of your identity. Remember to take with you the originals of the required attachments. The processing of your application will not begin until you have had your identity verified at an embassy or police station. You cannot use the service to change the venue, but you can leave free-form supplementary information on the issue. If you would like to handle your immigration issues at a different place to that at which you submitted your application, please also contact the Finnish foreign embassy or police in question.

If you cannot get an appointment at your service point within one month, you can make an appointment for a later date. Please inform us of the date by sending a supplement to your application. This ensures a decision will not be made before the said date.
When the processing of your application begins the status of your application will be changed to “Being processed”. It might not be possible to begin the processing of your application immediately after initiation.
Once the application has been processed and the necessary information obtained, the status of your application will be changed to “Being decided on”.
Once your application has been decided on, the status will be changed to “Waiting for notification”. If the decision was sent to you through the e-services, you will see it under “Notifications”. If the decision is notified to you in another manner, information about this can be found under the details of the application.
Once a residence permit decision has been made on your application and you are abroad, get in touch with your chosen service point to ask when a copy of the decision can be collected. Some embassies will post the decision to you directly. A favourable decision on a residence permit application cannot be delivered immediately after it is made, because the manufacturing and posting of a residence permit card takes approximately two weeks.
If you wish to supplement your application, for example, as a result of changes in your contact details, you can do so under “Send additional information”. Remember to make the same changes under “My data” in the left menu. If we require further information regarding your application, you will receive a request under "Reply to a request". The request will also be sent to you by e-mail or SMS.
