One finding from this study is the large disparity between official investigated reports and self-reports in the rates of concordance. Concordance varied from a low of 58% for neglect prior to out-of-home care to a high of 74% and 85% for sexual abuse prior to and during out-of-home care, respectively. The high agreement level for sexual abuse is the result of the high percentage of cases in which official investigated records and self-reports agreed that no sexual abuse occurred. This suggests that even when using data that represents strong sources of measurement of maltreatment, the limitations of prospective and retrospective measurement of child maltreatment remain strong (Pinto & Maia, 2013).
