High-potassium formation waters are present in the Swan Hills Member of the Beaverhill Lake Group, which represents early Beaverhill Lake reefing, of west-central Alberta. The ultimate relationship, if any, between the Swan Hills area and the Prairie EvaporiteFormation is unknown, but these waters should be examined both by hydrodynamic modelling to explain the origin of the potassium and as an economic prospect for direct potassium extraction from the water.
