14. Open the control valve for dilution to the dilution conveyor. Adjust the setpoint to
the desired production and switch the controller to AUTOMATIC.
15. Start the wash liquor flow to the press. A minimum flow is needed prior to
starting the pulp feed pump. Open the suction valve to the press feed pump.
16. Start the press feed pump.
17. Open the feed consistency valve 100%.
18. Open the press feed tank dilution flow controller and switch to REMOTE mode
with a ratio of 65%.
19. Open the FC valves to the press to get above the minimum flow to the press. Set
in AUTO control. These can be switched to CASCADE for feed tank level
control or overall production rate control once the system is stable.
20. Level in the level pipe of the press is controlled by the level controller to the
correct position i.e. to middle of the sight glasses and controller is switched to
AUTOMATIC.
21. Open the level pipe pressure controller is opened 100% in MANUAL mode.
Now the washing equipment with the DPA press is on a water run. Wash water flows
to the presses must be stable to help keep the filtrate tank as level as possible. The
water run provides practice for the operational personnel. This practice can be used to
create “disturbances” which force operators to start and stop the system, change the
production rate and deal with other upset conditions.
After water runs, the system should be stopped and prepared for pulp. This usually
involves draining some water from the system and doing any necessary maintenance
adjustments or inspections.
