Singapore's population is predominantly Chinese 75%, the only Chinese - majority state outside the People's Republic of China.
Singapore was ousted from the Federation of Malaysia in 1965.
There are four factors relevant to the understanding of Singapore:-
1 . Size and strategic location
2 . Its proximity to the Malaysia mainland
3 . The predominantly Chinese component of population
4 . Its traditional free port status
