I have used three main tools for identifying and releasing my feelings:
Write in a journal. When you let your internal editor go, the subconscious takes over and feelings pour out. Start by spending five or ten minutes describing how you feel right now. Or write about something that happened to you today, and then just let go and write whatever comes up. This can take practice, as we are not used to giving up control of our emotions, especially if we have been suppressing them. Writing actually processes your emotions; they are out of your head and heart and onto the paper (or computer file). This is a more in-depth process than the little notebook with one-word descriptions of the moment. And as you write about how you feel, you may find that your feelings start to change.
