The results will be described in the sections below. We will share the results in terms of
NOS conceptions, CoP to support NOS teaching, concerns about teaching NOS pre
and post, and NOS teaching strategies.
NOS conceptions. By the beginning of their internship semester, all preservice teachers
had attained adequate or informed conceptions of NOS aspects as measured
by their responses on the VNOS-B. No preservice teacher held informed conceptions
of all NOS aspects, but all held at least adequate understanding of each aspect, and
additionally, all held informed conceptions of some aspects. Because each teacher
held at least adequate views of NOS, we believed they held sufficient NOS content
knowledge to teach NOS to their students. Again, see Table 1 for an overview of
each preservice teacher’s NOS conceptions.
