4.1. Survey result
In the first stage, a total of 293 completed questionnaires
collected at Hua Hin and Cha-Am beaches were returned, yielding
a response rate of 71%. Similar to the study by Rittichainuwat and
Chakraborty (2012), more than half of the tourists perceived
a tsunami evacuation system and crisis management plan quite important. As shown in Table 1, announcements of evacuation
plans in major languages in the event of a disaster and tsunami
warning systems on beaches were the top-most important tsunami
safety measures. Likewise, tourists also considered the importance
of a crisis management plan, a “How to Survive a Disaster” manual
in guest rooms, an evacuation warning system linked to guest
rooms and frequently inspected safety measures at their partnered
accommodations and rehearsals of evacuation plans. The results
show that tourists felt quite safe toward the safety measures at this
beach, with a mean of 3.98.
