The lawyer’s profession is a noble one. His contribution to the admin-
istration of justice is often underestimated. Yet, he is an indispensable
element in the assurance that the justice is not only done but seen to be
done. The lawyer is a part of the judiciary and as such is engaged in
the same concern that is the search for truth. So he should not only
represent the interest of his client but also not forget his duty which he
owes to the justice and his obligation not to hide the truth14. So, pro-
fessional ethic is very important for lawyers in France.
The role of a lawyer in France is varied and wide area. The for-
mer distinction between a lawyer (avocet) and a barrister (avoué)
doesn’t exist anymore.
