In this paper was presented a solution for controlling a
binary distillation column from a catalytic cracking unit, using
an adaptable internal model control method.
The internal model structure distinguishes by its simplicity,
in implementation and tuning. It has only one tuning
parameter, the controller gain.
As can be seen from the presented trends, the behavior of
the process with the proposed control system was studied for
different values of the tuning parameter, observing that an
increase in the gain value leads to a decrease in the transient
time.
The proposed, adaptable, control structure offers dynamic
performances, better than the ones obtained with a classical,
linear internal model control algorithm.
