The purpose of bringing forth the inner child in this workshop was to nurture creativity and alternative modes of intelligence. The aim of the first session, the children’s party, was to locate and release participants’ emotional intelligence, using methods of applied creative thinking. The fundamentals of emotional intelligence are self-awareness, skilful handling of emotions, empathy and social skills. Too often in our work settings, we form rituals or habits of professionalism that limit our full expression of spontaneous emotions, such as delight, excitement and sometimes disappointment. To act like a child is to accept the chaotic, to let go or lose our mask of pretentiousness and evoke the charm to say and express things in ways less inhibited by whether they are ‘right’ or ‘true’.
