The physiological NO donors (RSNO and INCs)
contained in milk and colostrum can have a NOlike
effect on tissues of a newborn, particularly on the tone
of smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract.
Women’s milk, in which, according to our data, are
tens and hundreds of µM of RSNO, had a consider
able weakening effect on smooth muscles of an iso
lated segment of the rat aorta [9]. It is possible that
physiological NO donors are that component which is
not enough in children’s’ milk mixtures to make them
equivalent to women’s milk not only in composition
but also in physiological effectiveness.
