First, however,verify your perception about the importance of the conflict to the group. Ask members involved how their disagreement relates to the issue at hand. If there is some relevance, focus on the factual aspects of that and lead the group through a discussion of those issues. Use a Parking Lot, a device that allows you to list on a board or flip chart issues to be discussed later, to record any points that have some relevance, but not for the current matter under discussion. If there is no relevance, ask the individuals involved to please continue their discussion in private and explain why. If tempers are high, consider taking a brief break. Decide if you need to meet privately with those who have the disagreement, or if you should leave them to handle it themselves.
