Inspired by light festivals around the globe, the Portland Winter Light Festival is an annual event, taking place in during the first days of February (from the 1st to the 4th of February in the edition of 2017 ). It is designed to celebrate the spirit of winter and warmth of community; using light, color, artistry, performance, and imagination, this festival wants to bring people together during a time of year typically reserved for the indoor. Hosted at OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry), this festival is totally centered on innovation as the result of the collaboration between art and science. The festival brings the city to life during a time of year when it is often quiet, thanks to its activities and installations: it features large-scale light sculptures, projections, performances, light and design installations.
