Simply ... Access and Equity is about removing the barriers to open up opportunities for people to achieve. The Human
Rights of every person to receive equal access to resources and services, regardless of cultural or linguistic backgrounds,
their religion or spiritual beliefs socioeconomic status, gender, age or abilities.
One of the companies I work for has a poor understanding of access and equity and to a point, general human rights. I work
as a qualified Traditional Thai masseur in a different cultural massage clinic. Quiet often I find the Heavy framed person
is given to myself or others who are not of the same cultural background as the company, even to the point of making
the customer wait until we have finished other customers even thou there is a free practitioner, while the easiest of
customers tend to be saved for selected cultural employees. During busy times, even toiletry and meal break are dictated to
employees of different cultural backgrounds, While during quiet times even thou we are free to massage customers, easy
customers are made to wait until one of the selected employees are free. In this business I rely on customer loyalty and
quiet often I have had feedback from customers who had asked to book in with me and were told that I was unable to
massage them at a certain time and were told to book with one of the select employees, even thou I was free at that time.
As an employee, I feel angered that I don't have an equal opportunity, and have tried to voice my concerns but find it seem
to fall on deaf ears. This has cause both stress and illness in both work and home and has slowly pushed me to the point of
leaving my qualified trade.
