Questionaire to keep in mind when investigating raw material and added value areas during the supplier visit
Raw material areas
• Actually weigh the parts and scrap in order to identify the real gross, net and scrap weights as these are generally not accurate in the RFQ.
• Asking for material prices and scrap resale prices and compare it to prices quoted. Scrap resale values are usually not given in the RFQ at all.
• How many m2 are utilized for the material we use?
• How many people are working and what are they doing? Can any be directly connected to our raw material usage?
• What is the average stock level?
• What is the payment terms to raw material supplier?
• What is Autoliv’s payment term to the supplier?
• How many tons per year of the raw material does the supplier buy totally?
• How many tons per year of the raw material is consumed for Autoliv production?
• Are there any additional financial costs like a letter of credit?
Added value areas
• What is the opening time?
• What is the cycle time measured at the machine running at a continuous rate?
• What is the efficiency of the machine?
o Note that efficiency indicators can be missleading, use Run@Rate to get accurate assesment
• What machine is it, name, brand, investment cost, depreciation time, power usage?
• How large area does the machine and surrounding needed space take?
• How many direct operators?
• What is the set up time and batch size?
• What machine and tool maintenance is done? How often, how many hours, to what rate?
• How is the tool paid for? Is it included in the part price, in that case what does the tool cost and how many parts is it supposed to produce?
• What is the scrap of the process?
