The finding was in accordance to the result of Focused Group Discussion (FGD) attended by midwives in Jakarta in which they felt that they were lacking in knowledge on PMTCT of HIV and AIDS and some of them even had never been taught about it [15]. The condition was a predictor of midwives’ lack of knowledge on HIV and AIDS, low self confidence in midwives to socialize HIV and AIDS issues to patients of Health of Mother and Children Polyclinic (HMCP) [7] and [16].
The result of discussion between the researcher and 16 midwives in Sleman District (January–April 2012) showed that those midwives tend to refuse to take care of patient that was suspected as being infected by HIV. They would instantly refer the suspected patient to Hospital due to fear of contracting the disease.
