3.6. Time course of cultivation using yeast extract and MHP
The comparison of the additions of MHP and yeast extract as the nitrogen sources was carried out in a P. ergngii submerged culture. It was found that the mycelial biomass growth rates and the EPS yields were 2.05 g/L/day and 92 mg/L for MHP addition. In contrast, the lower values (1.55 g/L/day and 72 mg/L) were obtained for the addition of yeast extract. The maximum mycelial biomass and EPS yields appeared at day 5 for MHP, faster than that of yeast extract at day 7. The MHP cannot only improve EPS production, but also can reduce cultivation time for a P. ergngii culture in the main medium.
