Specific Grammar Applications
Janice Christy, M.Ed., believes that "grammar instruction should be tailor-made to meet the needs of students, and should weave both prescriptive and descriptive practices into relevant, meaningful instruction" (n.d., p. 1). She suggests writing two sentences with incorrect grammatical usage on the board each day, then assigning the
students to write those sentences correctly in their notebooks. The teacher can teach the grammatical concepts used as the sentences are corrected (Christy, n.d.). She also suggests assigning students to write a four sentence paragraph applying a grammatical concept. This paragraph should then be shared with the rest of the class, who will look it over for correct or incorrect uses. Finally, she suggests that students search for examples of specific grammar concepts in literature. These examples can then be shared with class
(Christy, n.d.).
