Non-transferred arc reactors have been mainly
used for the pyrolysis of liquid or muddy waste. In
few cases, the waste materials are injected directly
into the arc providing part of the plasma gas;
however, the interaction of corrosive elements,
such as chlorine, with the electrodes may lead to
high erosion rates requiring frequent change of the
electrodes. Therefore, the reactants are more
frequently injected into the plasma jet downstream
of the electrodes.
