Highlights
► 9 d of LNT treatment (9 and 6 °C) initially caused an irreversible reduced capacity for CO2 assimilation. ► Stomatal limitation and decline in Rubisco activity at the transcription level, and sucrose accumulation under LNT. ► LNT induced the reversible photoinhibition of PSII. ► LNT caused the acceptor side limitation of PSI. ► A downregulation of electron transport was mostly compensated by Ja(O2-dependent) driven by the water–water cycle.
