Spiders occupy almost all terrestrial habitats, and a few have invaded the aquatic habitat. They are mostly nocturnal in behavior. Not all spiders build large nets between bushes; some hunt on the ground or hide in ambush on flowers, others live in deep grasses and make irregular nets on the surface, and still other make cone-like webs extending back into burrows in the ground. Thus, the man species are extremely varied in structure, habitat, and especially in their behavioral patterns of feeding and self-protection. The number of people studying spiders is small compared to those interested in insects. This may be due to the fact that insects can be displayed more easily and in a much more attractive manner. Nevertheless, the study of spidersis us and other arachnids can hold a lifetime of interest.
