6. Conclusion
On the basis of the results from our study, we can conclude the following: Extensive burns in Kosovo in the initial phase are treated with close cooperation between the anesthesiologist and plastic surgeon, where patients with extensive burns are admitted to the intensive care unit where other traumas and pathologies are treated. The Ministry of Health in Kosovo should make an effort for the establishment of burn centers for professional treatment of burns. A high rate of childhood burns in Kosovo requires hospital admissions and prolonged hospital stays. The mean hospitalization period of children with burns in Kosovo was 35.6 days (range 1–186 days). To reduce childhood burns in Kosovo, a burn prevention strategy and program should be developed. Simple preventive measures can help to eliminate burns. The most effective way is public health education.
