MRI of the brain and hippocampus
History : A 68 year-old female with history of memory impiarment, was sent for evaluation.
Findings:
The study reveals patchy hyperintenseFLAIR foci involved subcortical and deep white matter of bilateral frontal and parietal lobes which should be moderate to severe degree of small vessel disease.
No focal mass, acute infarction, recent intracerebral hemorrhage, brain herniation, hydrocephalus or extra-axial collection is detected. The brainstem and the cerebellum are unremarkable.
The study of hippocampi shows normal signal intensity. No atrophy of both hippocampi and no thinning of both entorhinal cortices is seen.
The orbits, paranasal sinuses, mastoid air cells and nasopharynx are unremarkable.
Impression:
- Suggestive of moderate to severe degree of small vessel disease
- Unremarkable study of the hippocampi
- No detectable focal mass, acute infarction, recent intracerebral hemorrhage, brain herniation, hydrocephalus or extra-axial collection
