The structures, regulations and behaviours
associated with night-time environments have a
growingimpact on the health uf people in the
UK. Asa result of the revitalisation of nightlife,
especially in cities, half of 18 to 24 year olds
visit pubs at least twice a week and 40 percent
visit nightclubs at least once a fortnight (Mintcl
2002, 2003). These activities can promote
social interaction and relaxation (benefiting
mental health) and dancing (providing
physical exercise). However, night-time
activities also generate challenges to health
promotion, protection and treatment as well as
care systems.
