The purpose of this study was to examine children’s responses to three types of math board games
that research has indicated can increase preschool children’s development of number sense and
quantification skills when incorporated into the curriculum. Establishing a potential hierarchy in
difficulty related to the structure of the games would enable teachers to better match curriculum materials to children’s developmental levels in quantification. Teachers who employ a gamebased
curriculum have reported substantial differences in children’s ability to access various
types of games (Moomaw & Hieronymus, 1995, 1999, 2011)
