Population increases do not necessarily translate in higher growth, and the influence of migration is not
significant. These results somehow in line with their hypothesized influence; population growth is not always
associated with economic growth, especially when economic development is rather capital-intensive. The general
demographic decline underway in Romania may have mitigated the influence of migration, which is associated with
better economic opportunities. The unexpected insignificant influence of higher education enrollment numbers on
economic growth deserves future research. It may be that demographic and migratory influences mitigate the impact
of higher education enrollments, which contradicts empirical evidence and may point out to some specific
characteristics in the development of growth poles in Romania.
