SPECIAL DIETS
special diets may be ordered as treatment for a disease, to eliminete certain substances from the diet or to supply a specific nutrient in the case of a deficiency disease (for example: Iron deficiency anaemia is treated with a diet rich in iron).

A Vegetarian Diet may be a personal choice or it may be based on cultural principles found in many Eastern religions. Some regimens are nutritionally adequate and others are not.
A lacto-ova-vegetarian diet consists of grains, fruit and vegetables, supplemented with milk, cheese and eggs. A lot of nuts and legumes are included and used in a variety of ways.
Vegans, who don't eat any animal products at all and have only fruit and vegetables, nuts and grans in their diet, need to plan their meals very well to have a nutritionally adequate diet. A vegan diet, when planned property, can supply a good balance of essential amino-acids, and adequate amounts of calcium, riboflavin, iron, vitamin A and vitamin D. Vitamin B12 can be taken as a supplement or obtained from soy milk fortified with this vitamin.
