3.2. Analysis
The investigation of accidents related to transport interfaces revealed 617 accidents occurred all over the world during the last 60 years. The consequences of these accidents were 2494 fatalities and 17943 injuries. These consequences are distributed among the various transportation modes as presented in Table 2. In this table the number of accidents occurred, number of fatalities and number of injuries are depicted. The contribution of each mode is presented both as a number and as a percentage. Moreover, an additional index was calculated presenting the “average” fatalities per accident and “average” injuries per accident. As derived from Table 2—but also from the analysis of F–N curves for each transportation mode—the most “high-consequence” mode is marine (sea ports). Marshalling yards should be characterised as “medium–low fatalities/high injuries”, while any characterisation for the remaining two modes should take into consideration their very small sample.
