The efficacy of ultrasonic-assisted extraction is not only shownthrough the improved bioactive compound yield recovery but alsohelps in reducing the extraction time. In this mangosteen study, theextraction time has been shortened to 1 h from 20 h (Cheok et al.,2012a) and 2 h (Cheok et al., 2012b). A supporting study on this ison the extraction of total phenolics from D. regia tree flowers (Adjéet al., 2010) where although the total phenolics yields obtained bythe two extraction methods of ultrasonic-assisted bath extractionwith the mechanical stirring method have no significant difference, the ultrasonic bath did tremendously reduce the extraction timefrom 3 to 1 h.
