The initial measurements were done in order to get the basic
level of the traffic flow. As IMS network is more complex than
pure SIP based network, the initial measurements were done
with an IMS network. The target was to find a level that could
be run at least for half an hour. The base transaction level
for calls and messaging was 50 scenarios/second and if the
level of stress was handled successfully by the system then the
level was reconfigured by adding another 50 scenarios/second
more. This was continued until some problems were detected.
It turned out that occasionally the IMS system was able to
achieve the rate of over 700 scenarios/second. However, this
level of scenarios was not successful in continuous runs.
Eventually, the maximum number of scenarios had to be
leveled to 600 scenarios/second. The selected steps were 200,
400 and 600 scenarios/second. The same stress level was tested
with the SIP network as well, and no problems were detected
there.
