* The present study builds off of a previous study comparing implementation of the concepts of ecosystem services and green infrastructure in Berlin and New York City (Rall et al. 2012). Although that study only looked at one document per city, the Strategie Stadtlandschaft Berlin (2012) and PlaNYC (2011), respectively, and took a less hermeneutic approach to content analysis, the results supported those of this study. Specifically, the two concepts were found to be fairly widely considered in both plans although some less tangible ecosystem services, such as pollination, biological control, and, to some degree, genetic diversity were less represented. The analysis of ecosystem services presented here is part of a larger study comparing implementation of the concept across five American and European cities (Hansen et al. forthcoming).
