Participants found it easier to adhere to the medication
regimen when the medication was effective
in decreasing symptoms with minimal side effects.
This finding was consistent with those of previous
studies. Conn et al 28 also reported that if patients
do not experience the effectiveness of medication or
if they perceive intolerable side effects, they will
stop taking the medication without counsulting
their health care providers. Adverse side effects
have been identified as the most common barrier to
medication adherence
