The decision of malaria patients to seek treatment at a
health facility was not dependent on the distance from
home, this is consistent with a study in northern Sri Lanka
[11], but in contrast to those carried out in Ethiopia and
Myanmar [17,21]. The explanation might be that patients
in this study area had easier access to convenient forms of
travel than in Ethiopia and Myanmar [17,21], either by
motorcycles or cars. Nevertheless, travel by these means
in hilly and remote areas can be difficult during the rainy
season.
