competitive experience at grade A or B (Oceania amateur grading). The study was
performed in the competitive season following a period of base and precompetition
training. Due to the nature of each cyclist’s competition programme
it was not possible to control their individual training leading up to the study.
However immediately prior (2 weeks) to the start of the study cyclists were
completing individual self or coach-determined training regimes consisting of a
minimum of ten hours (,300-km) mixed intensity training per week. At the start
of laboratory testing cyclists were required to be in a well-prepared and nonfatigued
state.
