Even if the NMWC has the final decision, it should be accountable for its actions. Public accountability comes from the transparency of the process. There needs to be a clear procedure by which underperforming members of the NMWC can be removed from their positions, perhaps as specified in its internal procedures. In addition, Parliament must have the right to impeach the NMWC and to impose penalties or fines on and/or remove from office any members that are proven not to have acted in accordance to their functions and responsibilities. In all of these cases, a super-majority of the NMWC’s members should be required to censure or remove any of the members in order to limit the potential for abuse of this procedure.
