Parathyroidectomy in patients with psychiatric and
neurocognitive function
Assessment of patients with psychiatric and neurocognitive
dysfunction from PHPT can be difficult for physicians, since such
patients can be elderly with multiple chronic conditions. Such
problems may be dismissed as menopause, stress or normal aging [6].
Non-classic symptoms broadly fall into two categories: 1) Psychiatric
symptoms that can include depression, anxiety, and hallucinations
and 2) Neurocognitive changes such as visual and spatial learning
deficits and sleep disturbances [4].
