Since the sugars may occur in both supernatant and pellet and cause complexities, the water absorption of starch pastes was measured volumetrically.
The prepared starch pastes (10 ml) were placed in graduated centrifuge tubes and centrifuged at 3500g for 10 min.
After centrifugation the supernatant was removed and the volume of remnant was determined.
