The Boeing Company
Boeing was split into two primary segments: commercial airplanes and integrated defense systems. In2002, it was awarded $16.6 billion in defense contracts, second only to Lockheed Martin with $17.0 billion. Exhibit 1. Shows that in 2002, each segment eamed Boeing’s revenues almost equally. In addition, while commercial-aircraft revenues had been falling, defense revenues had been rising. Analysis believed that Boeing was able to transfer significant amounts of technology from the defense R&D to the commercial-aircraft segment.
