A supportive tone and attitude coupled with a positive opening remark in the post-observation conference will do much to put the teacher at ease and more receptive to the ensuing dialogue. As you would during a lesson, it is best to “ask, not tell.” Avoid telling the teacher what worked and what did not work in the lesson. Rather, you should ask questions and work with the teacher so that he or she can recognize and articulate what was good and what needs to be improved.
