2.1. Sampling
Milk and feed sampling was a part of the surveillance plan
conducted by Food and veterinary agency of Macedonia, in the
period February 2013eJanuary 2014. The sampling was divided in
three phases: initial, with aim to screen the milk intended for
production; intensive phase intended for daily control of the milk
input into the dairy production; and monitoring phase inwhich the
milk sampling frequency was reduced to weekly. Following this
scheme, 3635 raw milk samples (350 for the first, 808 for the
second, and 2477 for the third phase) were collected from the
dairies. After sampling, raw milk was stored at 2e8
? C and tested
within 24 h, otherwise kept at ?20
? C until analyzed.
Additionally, during the study period, 67 feed samples collected
from the farms are tested for AFB 1 contamination. Among them, 28
feed samples were taken within the follow-up activities after
confirmation the milk non-compliancy for AFM 1 . The amount of
feed samples taken from the retail stages was from 2 to 3 kg. Upon
reception in laboratory, the feed samples were divided into suitable
subsamples, and were kept at 2e8
? C until analyzed.
