b. Details of the animal derived material used must be declared. The animal derived material
must be processed by an approved method. The product must not be coated after it is heat
treated. The final product must not require refrigeration. The manufacturing facility must be
quality assured.
To demonstrate compliance with this requirement you must present the following on a
Manufacturer's declaration:
1. A statement that the only materials of animal origin used in manufacture of the uncoated
pet treat products are:
- Bovine derived rawhide that has been soaked in a lime solution of pH 14 for not less
than 8 hours.
2. A statement that all animal derived material has been heat treated to a minimum core
temperature of:
- 80°C for at least 15 hours.
3. A statement that the pet treat products have not been coated with any further animal
derived material (e.g. fat, digest, flavour enhancer) following the heat processing
outlined above
4. A statement that the final product does not require refrigeration.

c. The manufacturer’s declaration must be verified by a veterinarian. Any animal derived
material must be sourced from healthy animals.
To demonstrate compliance with this requirement you must present the following on an
Official Government Veterinary Certificate:
1. A statement that the veterinarian has examined the manufacturer's declaration, and has
no reason to doubt the truth of any declaration made by the manufacturer.
2. 2.1 A statement that all animal derived material (other than dairy, avian or fish products,
or products of Australian or New Zealand origin) was derived from animals which were
subjected to ante- and post-mortem veterinary inspection and were found to be free from
contagious and infectious disease.
2.2 For products that contain avian material (other than egg), a statement that all avian
material (other than egg) was derived from animals that were subjected to ante- and/or
post-mortem inspection and were found to be free from contagious and infectious
disease.
3. A statement that the rawhide has been soaked in a lime solution of pH 14 for not less
than 8 hours.
4. A statement that the product is made from hide/skin tissue only and contains no ear
tissue or other tissue containing cartilage.
The certificate must be issued by the country of manufacture.
