The urban sewage char was activated at 800–10008C,leading to a rise in adsorption levels. Yet, increasing the
final temperature beyond this resulted in similar adsorption levels. However, the BET surface area of the activated
product was very low with a low adsorption capacity. The pore size distribution was not very uniform, being certainly
mesoporous with a low proportion of microporosity (28%). Longer activation times did not produce a better quality in
the final product. Since the ash proportion in this char was too high (Table 5), it was expected to yield only a low
quality activated carbon.
