Although Chinese dialects are rarely spoken today, and the government ruled that all original Chinese names had to be converted into Indonesian, there are still reminders of early Sino-Indonesian union in dishes such as lumpia and bak mie goring. They can easily be linked with the Chinese dishes of spring rolls and fried noodles, but have had indigenous herbs and spices added.
