INTRODUCTION
People enjoy various social events, and LED lighting
contributes to creating a good atmosphere. However, existing
commercial lighting kits have a limited number of lighting
patterns. Users can only choose a preset pattern and cannot
control individual LEDs. This restrains the creativity of users.
In this paper, we propose a lighting system that allows users
to choose their desired lighting pattern of LEDs. Due to its
wide radiation area, a projector can be used to control massive
lighting patterns of LEDs [1]. We consider that this approach is
effective in large-scale lighting, such as installing hundreds of
LEDs on a wall. In contrast, we deal with small-scale systems
for home entertainment. In this case, fine-grained individual
control of an LED is a unique characteristic. A smartphone is
utilized in two steps: 1) spotting on (i.e., selecting) an LED
with the backside light to notify the system of the target, and
2) setting control information through the smartphone screen.
A user does not need to know the control information of LEDs
to send commands, because we assume a user can intuitively
change lighting patterns. We present the interaction method
and implementation in a preliminary user study.
