Bubinga
Other names: Kevazingo, African Rosewood, Akume
Latin name: Guibourtia demeusei (Harms)
Density: ca. 925 kg/m³
Description:
This South African wood is heavy and stiff therefore it is a great material for bodies and necks of guitars and basses. It is also commonly found as parts of laminated constructions of bass necks providing bright middle and tight, well defined bottom.
Bodies made of bubinga offers incredibly long sustain, very good articulation in low end and clear high.
Bubinga has very interesting natural colour, often coupled with beautiful wavy grain patterns unique for each wood block. Unfortunately the price for great tone and seducing look is rather heavy weight of the instrument. Therefore it is mainly used for tops and back sides, rather in basses than guitars.
