Students need vocabulary to write, but the only evidence available on the role of vocabulary in second language writing comes from English as a foreign language college students. The educational context of Language Minority learners differs in substantive ways from that of older English as a foreign language students, greatly limited the generalizations that can be drawn from English as a foreign language work to the Language Minority learner school-age population.
