Nowadays, the volume of English loan words in Thai language has been increased,
especially in cosmetics and fashion articles. English loan words are widely used in
contexts because they are easier to understand and more accessible to any group of
people than using Thai words. The word such as “mascara” (มาสคารา), “cream” (ครีม),
“gel” (เจล), “stylist” (สไตลิส), “vitamin” (วิตามิน) no longer seem foreign, having been
completely assimilated to Thai language. Most people can understand these words
without translation. However, using more transliteration in cosmetic articles from Thai
magazines may cause some impact to deviate Thai language. Cosmetic articles have
been found in various fashion magazines. Obviously, some English loan words are
attached in these articles. Because of the use of these loan words, Thai people might not
fully understand the article. Therefore, the researcher would like to analyze English
loan words in L’Optimum magazine which is one of the famous male magazines in
Thailand. This will help the readers understand more about English loan words.
