The primary function of the krebs cycle (also called the citric acid cycle or tricarboxylic acid cycle) is to complete the oxidation (hydrogen removal) of carbohydrates, fats, or proteins using NAD+ and FAD as hydrogen (energy) carriers. The importance of hydrogen removal is that hydrogens (by virtue of the electrons that they possess) contain the potential energy in the food molecules.
