This was complicated by the fact that the Old Testament has no trace or evidence of a person called “God the Son,” the central figure of trinitarian faith. This problem was taken care of, psychologically at least, by assuming that most of the instances in the Old Testament of “the Lord” (capitalized in most English Bibles as “the LORD”) refer to Jesus in his preexistence. But if “the LORD” refers to Jesus, where is the Father’s place in the Old Testament?
